I’m going with a red polka dot binding. It’s stitched on the front, and right now I’m pressing and pinning for its second stitching. I’m leaning towards machine stitching the second time, rather than my usual hand stitching. I’ve not done that before, but I keep telling myself that it’s not cheating and that it will look just as good done by machine.
I think I might go back in and add another row of quilted scallops in the border. Too much unquilted space for my liking.
I’m not a big fan of being tied to my sewing machine when the weather is nice, so this part is taking forever because I keep avoiding it so I can go outside instead. Perhaps hand binding is in my future? Hee hee.

Love that pop of red using the polka dot binding, Cara. This is going to be such a sweet finish! I get that you want to be outside now that the weather is nice…. But maybe part of it is fear? Doing binding by machine, just like anything else, does take practice, but once you get the hang of it… You will be SEW glad! I LOVE doing ALL my bindings by machine now.

This is such a wonderful looking project! I love the pop of red for the binding. I also love the scallop quilting along the edge. Can't wait to see the finished result!

I have always hand stitched my bindings down on the back…love those last slow moments of savoring my quilt. That being said I have two quilts ready for trying my hand at machine stitching the binding down completely…just so I can get more done! 🙂

Doing the binding by machine is not cheating. When I first started quilting, I read a lot of quilt history. To my surprise, I discovered that our ancestors embraced their sewing machines with a vengeance – they did everything by machine that they could and that included quiltng,applique and even bindings.So go for it!
